Expect four clusters: accounting fundamentals (golden rules, journal entries, depreciation), GST and TDS basics, software proficiency (Tally, Excel — often as a practical test), and situational questions like handling an invoice mismatch or a month-end close. Freshers are judged more on fundamentals and attitude than on experience.
Use a 60-second structure: education → practical skills (Tally, GST filing, Excel) → any hands-on practice (simulated companies, internships, real filings) → why this firm. End with something concrete you can do on day one, like 'I can independently record purchases, reconcile bank statements and prepare GSTR-1 data.'
Yes — many Kerala firms sit candidates at a computer and ask them to record entries in Tally, build a quick Excel summary or identify errors in a trial balance. Candidates who trained only on theory struggle here; candidates who practised on realistic books usually clear it comfortably.
Research the local range first. In Kerala, a fresher with practical Tally + GST skills can reasonably quote ₹15,000–₹20,000 depending on city and firm size. Quote a range, not a number, and emphasise the skills that justify it.

Instead of textbook exercises, trainees operate the books, bank account, invoices and internal correspondence of simulated companies — M & M Technologies, Toy Kingdom and PetalSoft — where transactions arrive incomplete, out of order and occasionally wrong, exactly as they do in a real office. Trainees learn judgement by making decisions and correcting them, which is the part of the work that cannot be transferred by explanation.
