Frequently asked questions

What courses are available for an accountant?

They fall into two groups. Professional qualifications — CA, CMA, CPA and ACCA — take two to five years, are examination-heavy and lead to statutory or senior finance roles. Practical programmes — accounting, GST, Tally, Zoho Books, payroll, SAP FICO and analytics training — take one to six months and lead to employable junior and mid-level accounting roles. Be clear which group you are choosing before comparing anything else.

Which course is best for an accountant in India?

There is no single best course; it depends on how long you can study without earning. If you can commit four to five years, CA is the highest-value qualification in India. If you need a job within a year, a practical programme covering Tally, GST, payroll and real book-keeping gets you hired faster and can be built on later.

How long is an accountant course?

Practical job-oriented programmes run one to six months. ACCA typically takes two to three years, CMA (US) one to two years, CPA (US) around eighteen months to two years, and CA in India commonly four to five years including articleship.

Can I become an accountant without a degree?

Yes, for junior roles. Employers hiring accounts assistants and junior accountants test whether you can operate real books, file returns and use Tally or Zoho Books competently. A commerce degree helps for progression and is required to enter most professional qualifications, but it is not what gets you the first job.

Which accounting course has the best job prospects for freshers?

For a fresher with no experience, a practical programme covering Tally Prime, GST, TDS, payroll and MIS reporting has the highest hire rate, because it maps directly onto what a junior accountant does daily. Professional qualifications have better ceilings but a much longer runway before the first salary.

What is the fee for accounting courses?

Practical programmes in Kerala typically run from around ₹20,000 for a single-tool course to ₹88,000 for a comprehensive six-month programme. Professional qualifications vary widely — CA is comparatively inexpensive in fees but long, while CPA and ACCA carry substantially higher examination and registration costs. Always confirm the current fee schedule with the awarding body, since these change annually.

Is Tally enough to get an accounting job?

Tally alone is rarely enough. Employers test the accounting judgement behind the software — whether you can reconcile a statement that does not match, decide how to treat an odd transaction, and file a return correctly. Tally plus GST, payroll and real book-keeping practice is the combination that gets offers.

Can I do an accounting course after 12th?

Yes. Practical programmes generally accept +2 pass candidates, and you can begin CA foundation after 12th as well. Most other professional qualifications require a degree or are best started during or after one.

About CELSE Labs

CELSE Labs — the Centre for Experiential Learning and Skill Enhancement — is an NSDC-certified, ISO 9001:2015 accredited skill training institute and an Approved Training Partner of Medhavi Skills University. We work with commerce graduates, career changers and working professionals across Kerala who want a job in accounting, finance, compliance or data, and who need practical capability rather than another certificate.

Our training is experiential rather than lecture-based. Instead of textbook exercises, trainees operate the books, bank account, invoices and internal correspondence of simulated companies — M & M Technologies, Toy Kingdom and PetalSoft — where transactions arrive incomplete, out of order and occasionally wrong, exactly as they do in a real office. Trainees learn judgement by making decisions and correcting them, which is the part of the work that cannot be transferred by explanation.

Teaching is one-to-one, so pace follows the learner rather than a cohort. New batches start every Wednesday at both centres. Scholarships of up to 30% are available through a free online scholarship test, and our placement record includes 36+ named alumni at HDFC, ICICI, Bajaj Finserv, Kotak Mahindra, Big Basket, Ford, Amrita Hospital and JRHA Accounting in the UAE.
