Frequently asked questions
Is a diploma better than a degree in accounting?
Neither is universally better. A degree gives academic grounding over three years; a diploma gives job-readiness in a defined function in six to twelve months. Many people do both — often a diploma first, then a degree part-time.
What is the difference between a certificate and a diploma?
A certificate is usually short and issued by the training centre itself. A diploma runs longer, covers a whole function rather than one tool, and is typically awarded against an external syllabus by a university or recognised body.
Can I get an accounting job with only a certificate?
Sometimes, particularly if you already hold a commerce degree and the certificate fills a specific software gap. On its own, a short certificate rarely carries a career.
I already have a B.Com. What should I add?
Practical evidence rather than another academic qualification — accounting software, GST and TDS compliance, payroll, and reporting. That is what interviewers test.
How long does an accounting diploma take?
Typically six to twelve months. The Professional Diploma in Professional Accounting runs eight months.
